P.S. Ryan brought the attention of this article to me because he thought the comment Brian Ellis wrote was pretty genius. And it is. That's an awesome idea.
Picked up someone from the airport the other day and he just got back from training his students on this. His company makes this for people to one control unit for everything in their home, ie. a touchscreen that allows you to determine the temperature of each room, the lighting, the sound, whether or not to turn the oven on, the jacuzzi, the alarm, open the garage door, etc. The best part is, its then linked online so imagine telling your house to wake up and get warm for you five minutes before arriving, all via your phone. Simply amazing.
even if its in a public area, i still wouldnt touch it. Imagine all the bum wipes on that screen after 12 hours... You might as well lick hand rails in the subway...
I dont think the company designing this has the intention of replacing desktop computers. This type of interface would be good for kiosk type settings. Or imagine if you're at the airport riding along on those airport conveyor escalator things and a computerized wall following you and asking what type of things you're going to be needing as you exit your way out of the airport. I'm sorry but some of you guys are taking this idea the wrong way.
